# Account and reading preferences

Use Settings to make Gideon recognizable and comfortable to read. Hosted Gideon keeps a shared visual identity while allowing personal reading preferences.

## Identity
Under **Account**, set your name for greetings. The username is an attribution label for things you create, not a login identity. Set an assistant name if you want Gideon to introduce itself differently. Save each control and confirm the saved value.

Restart onboarding only when you want to repeat the introduction; it clears the stored name used by that flow.

## Hosted reading preferences
Open **Reading preferences** to choose light, dark, or automatic appearance, content width, and navigation visibility. Automatic appearance follows your device. These reading choices apply in the current browser. Reduced motion follows the device setting.

Choose **Show all available pages** if you prefer the full navigation instead of progressive disclosure.

## Self-hosted design controls
Self-hosted **Design** also offers color schemes, typography and scale, backdrop and motion, density, shape, and saved themes. Inspect changes in both light and dark modes. Deleting a saved theme removes that saved choice; it is different from temporarily choosing another theme.

## Sign-in boundaries
Hosted sign-in belongs to your Gideon account. The self-hosted account panel can offer password sign-in and two-factor authentication for a gateway you operate. Do not apply local gateway authentication instructions to a hosted account.
