Chat settings and file checkpoints

Last reviewed

Open Settings → Chat to choose session behavior, reply presentation, and file-checkpoint limits. These controls affect different parts of the conversation lifecycle.

Session behavior

Choose whether to restore recent sessions on startup and how recent a session must be. Configure the handling of mid-turn messages: queue, steer, or replace. Merge queued follow-ups only if one combined request fits your workflow.

Set auto-tagging and auto-archive deliberately. An idle timeout closes idle sessions; auto-archive moves inactive conversations into the archive. A zero value disables the relevant timed behavior where the control says so.

Reply presentation

Choose Send on Enter, timestamps, inline thinking, simplified tool names, follow-up suggestions, and smooth or immediate streaming. Enable Check this work if you want optional verification offered after qualifying work. Widget density affects visual presentation inside responses.

Screen sharing

Share screen in chat adds a browser-mediated capture control. A message can carry a single selected frame for that turn when enabled. The browser shows its capture indicator; disabling the setting hides the control and refuses frames. Inspect the selected screen for unrelated information.

File checkpoints

Enable Back up files before an edit to capture eligible file bytes before the first agent write in a turn. Choose a per-chat storage cap, number of turns retained, and largest captured file. Credential files are excluded and oversized files may be noted without capture.

File rewind restores captured files; it does not rewind the conversation. Preview the affected files before restoration and inspect skipped or missing captures. This is not a complete backup system.

Advanced context

Auto-compaction controls when context is summarized. Warm-pool size, agent, and lifetime concern session readiness. Change advanced values only for a understood need and check the resulting behavior.
